Direct Support Professional - Weekend
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing assistance and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. This position focuses on enhancing the quality of life for clients by promoting independence, dignity, and personal growth. The DSP will work closely with clients in various settings, including group homes and home care environments, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social needs are met.
Schedule Weekends 12 hours either day or overnight. plus 2 days during the week (8 hour shifts)
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household chores.
- Provide companionship and engage clients in social and recreational activities to enhance their well-being.
- Monitor and document clients’ vital signs as needed, ensuring any changes are reported to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Administer medications as prescribed and maintain accurate records of medication administration.
- Support clients in developing life skills that promote independence and self-sufficiency.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment for clients, adhering to health and safety standards.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create and implement individualized support plans tailored to each client’s needs.
- Lift and assist clients as necessary while following proper safety protocols.
Skills
- Experience in caregiving or working with individuals with developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of vital signs monitoring and basic medical care practices is beneficial.
- Familiarity with medication administration procedures is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients, families, and team members.
- Ability to maintain a clean environment while ensuring client safety and comfort.
- Experience in home care or long-term care settings is an advantage.
- Physical capability to lift clients safely when required.
- A compassionate attitude towards helping others achieve their best quality of life.
