Job Description
Responsibilities
Barge Cleaning and Stripping Operations
- Identify cargo contained in barge set for cleaning.
- Determine where cargo is to be transferred based on cargo type, amount, and available storage.
- Work under chemical hygienist and marine chemist to test tanks for vapor toxicity and LELs to ensure that levels are below the level required for safe entry.
- Enter the tanks of the barges to pump or rag out residual cargo.
- Inspect barge ensuring it is cleaned to customer specifications.
- Prepare the dock or facility side for loading/discharging liquid petroleum cargoes as per facility loading instructions. This includes performing line-up of pipelines, opening/closing valves, and connection/disconnection of transfer hoses and loading arms.
- Connect and disconnect cargo hoses/loading arms to facilitate the safe transfer of liquid petroleum cargo to/from the Vessel/Barge/Shore tank/Tank Truck.
- Continuously monitor transfer utilizing float gauges, maintaining documentation of cargo transfer history, vessel/shore communications, and various other transfer system components such as storage tanks.
- Continuously monitors and document the volume of product moving between vessel(s) and shore keeping all involved parties informed of the transfer status.
- Monitor cargo tank capacities.

Ability to use firefighter equipment and spill containment equipment.
- Upkeep and repair of pumps used to transfer cargo.
- Inspection of hoses for wear and failures.
- Inspection of tanks and truck rack.

Inspect rainwater for clarity and discharge.
- Clean the bathroom in office.
- General cleaning around office.

Cleaning around the grounds.
- PICs will be required to be familiarized and understand the cleaning facility security requirements.
- PICs are responsible for continuous monitoring for security concerns:
- Barge inspections for suspicious items.
- Monitoring the access gate and granting people entry.
- Vehicle and facility screening for suspicious cargo.

Logging in contract workers, truck delivery drivers and Kirby personnel.
- Ability to work with the certified industrial hygienist and marine chemist.
- Ability to operate, calibrate and log information using the gas monitor.
- Be trained in the use of all necessary Personal Protective Equipment. Job requires use of a respirator daily (NO FACIAL HAIR).
- Follow all safety requirements and training as required by Kirby and Supervisors

- Basic Verbal communication skills:

- Basic writing skills.
- Follow directions from facility supervisors, Industrial hygienist, and marine chemist.
- Must adhere to all company policies.

Must remain drug and alcohol free always while on Kirby property or during course and scope of company business.
- Must be able to withstand extreme condition, including; extreme heat/cold, rain sleet ice and snow, confined spaces and/or exposure to chemicals at safe levels.
- Must pass physical designed to test for ability to work in conditions specific to this job.
- Ability to drive company vehicles (Valid Texas driver’s license required).
- Must be able to attend company-required training.

Must have reliable transportation.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Physical Activities & Requirements: Standard Office Criteria
Must pass the Physical Requirements Exam.
Working Conditions:
Standard Office Criteria
Must be able to work a rotating schedule which includes day & night shifts; 12 hours per shift. 7 days on/3 days off, then 7 nights on/4 days off.
