This position performs a full range of technical departmental assignments which are subject to changes due to statutory requirements. The tasks require knowledge and utilization of policies, procedures and statutes to carry out Record Office functions. This position is responsible for coordinating approved prisoner transfers, preparing files to be transferred, running LEIN’s and completing transfer order and details. This position is responsible for reconciliation of the facility count, preparing daily bulletin, completing release checklists, monthly reports. This position answers prisoner kites, takes calls from staff/courts/public, interviews prisoners with grievances. This position receives indirect supervision and works with established methods, procedures, policies, laws and oral/written instructions. Uses OMS (Offender Management System), LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) and OMNI (Offender Management Network Information) to complete computer tasks. Process pending charges, certified letters, parole screens, parole paperwork, writ processing running and reading LEINs on incoming prisoners and any other duties assigned.

Required Education And Experience

Education

Education typically acquired through completion of high school

Experience

Departmental Technician 7

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.

Departmental Technician 8

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.

OR

One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.

Departmental Technician E9

One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

OR

Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.

Alternate Education And Experience

Departmental Technician (Trainee) 7

Two years of experience in a 7 level or higher non-administrative support ECP Group One classification.

OR

One year of experience as a first-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.

Departmental Technician 7

Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician 8

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Departmental Technician E9

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Position Description

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training. PLEASE NOTE: Overnight travel may be required for NCNET.
