MAGIS is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Director of Coaching. The Director of Coaching (DOC) is the technical and cultural leader of MAGIS, responsible for ensuring that our mission — to create better players and stronger leaders through soccer — is consistently lived out on and off the field.
The DOC will oversee player development, coach hiring and training, and parent engagement while also driving the long-term growth of the academy. This is a full-time salaried position requiring evenings and weekends. Approximately 65% of the role will be field-based, with 35% administrative and strategic responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
Player Development
- Design and oversee MAGIS’s player development curriculum, ensuring technical, tactical, physical, and psychological growth at every age.
- Conduct Player Development Programming (PDP) sessions and regular age-group trainings.
- Attend team games and practices to evaluate players’ development and provide feedback.
- Ensure every player’s journey reflects the dual goals of performance improvement and personal growth.
Coach Development & Management
- Recruit, train, and mentor all MAGIS coaches to ensure alignment with academy philosophy and values.
- Conduct formal weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual evaluations and provide consistent feedback.
- Lead internal coaching education, including clinics, mentoring, and development plans.
- Serve as the first point of contact in resolving conflicts between coaches, parents, and players.
Parent Education & Communication
- Build strong relationships with parents, educating them on the developmental process.
- Conduct new family orientations and quarterly Q&A sessions.
- Maintain transparent, proactive communication to ensure trust and alignment with MAGIS’s mission.
Academy Growth & Promotion
- Collaborate with leadership on long-term strategy, program expansion, and facility development.
- Promote MAGIS within the Memphis soccer community through outreach, partnerships, and visibility at events.
- Build networks across state and regional soccer to highlight MAGIS’s unique programs.
- Build and develop sponsorships to support MAGIS’s growth.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Ability:
- Minimum USSF C License (B License or higher preferred; or actively pursuing).
- 3-5+ years coaching experience at competitive youth levels.
- Strong leadership experience — mentoring coaches, overseeing programs, and/or directing player development.
- Excellent communication skills; strong conflict resolution and relationship management abilities.
- Highly organized, task-oriented, and comfortable balancing fieldwork with administrative duties.
- Technologically proficient (video analysis, scheduling systems, online communication).
- Must pass a background check and hold a valid driver’s license.
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education, sports management, business administration, or a similar sports or business-related field, or the equivalent.
- Fluency and excellent communication skills in English.
- Excellent human skills.
- Self-motivation and ability to motivate others.
- Proactive and able to take initiative and develop solutions quickly.
- Having the humility to listen and learn.
- Ability to connect with players on a personal level.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to lift, move, push and pull equipment.
- Should be able to handle outdoor temperatures for a reasonable period of time.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, is required.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to drive for training sessions and player’s games.
- Should have space available to store training materials.
