Job Description

Overview:

Mt. Shasta Ski Park is seeking skilled and safety-focused individuals to join our Mountain Operations team as Equipment Operators. This position covers two critical roles—snow groomers and plow drivers—both essential for maintaining safe, high-quality snow surfaces and ensuring reliable access to the resort. Whether operating grooming machinery on the slopes or plow trucks on access roads and parking areas, Equipment Operators help keep the mountain running smoothly and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Snow Groomer:

Operate snowcats and other grooming machinery to maintain ski and snowboard terrain.

Build, maintain, and shape terrain features in collaboration with Mountain Operations.

Monitor snow conditions and adjust grooming patterns as needed.

Perform pre- and post-operation inspections of grooming equipment.

Operate safely on steep slopes, variable terrain, and in low-visibility conditions.

As a Plow Driver:

Operate plow trucks, loaders, or other snow removal equipment to clear access roads, parking lots, and walkways.

Apply sand or de-icer as necessary to maintain safe driving and walking conditions.

Monitor weather changes and respond promptly to snowfall or ice buildup.

Assist with lot maintenance, traffic flow, and snowbank management during peak times.

General Responsibilities (Both Roles):

Follow all safety protocols and maintain awareness of surroundings at all times.

Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and other operators.

Document maintenance issues and report equipment needs promptly.

Support Mountain Operations as assigned during storms or high-demand periods.

Qualifications:

Previous experience operating heavy equipment, grooming machines, or plow trucks preferred.

Valid driver’s license required; commercial or heavy equipment certifications a plus.

Strong understanding of winter driving or equipment operation in snowy/mountain environments.

Ability to work independently in low-light and adverse weather conditions.

Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to remain focused during long shifts.

Physically able to sit for long periods and perform occasional lifting (up to 40 lbs).

Night shift availability highly preferred for groomers.

Compensation & Schedule:

Pay rate: $20.00 – $24.00 per hour, depending on experience and certifications.

Seasonal position with full-time and part-time shifts available.

Must be available for early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and storm-response shifts.
