Position Summary:

A Fire Watch Officer is responsible for maintaining a continuous watch for fire hazards in designated areas, particularly during hot work operations (welding, cutting, grinding), system impairments, construction projects, or when fire alarm/sprinkler systems are offline. The officer’s primary duty is to detect and respond immediately to signs of fire, smoke, or unsafe conditions to prevent property damage, injury, or loss of life.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

· Conduct continuous patrols of assigned areas.

· Monitor for smoke, sparks, overheating equipment, gas leaks, or open flames.

· Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and site-specific safety plans.

· Verify fire extinguishers and suppression equipment are accessible and functional.

· Immediately notify emergency services in the event of fire.

· Sound alarms and initiate evacuation procedures if necessary.

· Maintain detailed activity logs and incident reports.

· Ensure all hot work permits are properly posted and active.

· Remain alert and free from distractions at all times.

· Prevent unauthorized personnel from entering restricted or hazardous areas.

Required Qualifications:

· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

· Strong observational and communication skills.

· Ability to remain alert for long shifts.

· Basic knowledge of fire safety procedures.

· Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays if required.

Physical Requirements:

· Continuous standing and walking.

· Ability to climb stairs.

· Ability to lift up to 25–40 lbs if required.

· Work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
