JOB DESCRIPTION

Mental Health Recovery Support Worker

Salary: £27,000 basic Pro Rata to reflect 21 hours per week.

1 Sleep shift per week £78.30 per sleep additional earnings.

Location: Woodside Normanton.

Hours: 21 Hours plus 1 Sleep overnight.

Shifts

Tuesday 14.00 – 22.00 Plus Sleep finishing 08.00am following day.

Thursday 08:00 – 16:00

Saturday 08:00 – 16:00

Specific requirements of the post:

Woodside is a 12-bed accommodation-based service, providing 24/7 support to adults aged 18 and above suffering with mental ill health. We work alongside local agencies including the Wakefield homeless pathway. Woodside Supports Service Users to manage their accommodation and assists with re integration back into the community. To provide flexible, focused and short-term housing-related support to service users in accommodation with a wide range of support needs. The aim is to support service users to secure permanent accommodation within the contracted timescales.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To implement referral and admissions in line with TLA’s policies and ensure all paperwork including the tenancy agreement is given to clients.
  • To undertake comprehensive risk and needs assessments and support plans using a person-centred approach.
  • To work restoratively with clients to achieve successful outcomes by coproducing a support plan and supporting them to achieve the required and desired outcomes.
  • To implement the Warnings and Breach List following breaches of the Tenancy Agreement and Woodside Rules.
  • To develop and maintain professional working relationships with housing and support agencies to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to client support needs.
  • To signpost clients to specialist services and make referrals as required. To network and promote Woodside to other organisations to encourage joint working and referrals.
  • Understanding and adhering to the Lone Working Policy to ensure personal safety and that of others in the scheme.
  • To have understanding, tolerance and patience when working with clients who have substance misuse issues.
  • To encourage and support client involvement and participation in service provision in line with TLA policies.
  • To always work within, adhere to and promote TLA’s Safeguarding Adults, Children & Young People Policies to ensure that clients are safe from abuse.
  • To adhere to TLA policies and procedures on Confidentiality and GDPR.
  • To assist in the housing management of the accommodation.
  • To ensure that all Health and Safety policies, practice and procedures are implemented in individual work practice.
  • To complete all tasks to facilitate a quick turnaround of accommodation.
  • To work with clients in identifying and securing independent alternative accommodation when clients are ready for move-on.
  • To carry out administrative and monitoring tasks associated with the running of the service.
  • To demonstrate a commitment to client participation by facilitating groups and client meetings.
  • To effectively promote rent collection, arrears control and recovery when working with clients, undertake banking duties and to work within TLA’s financial policies & procedures.
  • To be a committed member of a team working flexibly to facilitate and enable clients achieve goals and objectives.
  • To meet individual performance standards as required against TLA performance requirements and contracted funding requirements.
  • To attend team meetings and to assist in the development and implementation of service objectives.
  • To represent the service when required at organisation and external meetings.
  • To have regular personal supervision with the Scheme Manager to monitor and evaluate personal performance against agreed targets.
  • To participate in training and development activities to ensure up-to-date knowledge, skills and awareness.
  • To actively support and promote TLA’s policy on Equal Opportunities and Diversity and to work in an anti-oppressive manner.
  • To always represent the organisation in a positive and maintain professional boundaries.
  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post as required by the organisation.

Social Conditions

This post requires the successful candidate to work flexibly as required to meet the needs of the service and client group. The hours of work are primarily determined by the needs of the organisation and encompass working on a rota system including early morning, late evening, weekends and Bank Holidays. This will also include some lone working. Shift changes may be required at short notice & there will be the opportunity to work extra hours as determined by the needs of the service. TLA reserves the right to move staff to other sectors of the organisation as and when required to meet organisation requirements.

Qualifications

Willingness to undertake training within the role.

Special Requirements

TLA requires applicants to disclose all criminal convictions and cautions; no matter how long ago they occurred and regardless of whether the offences were committed as a juvenile or adult. The organisation undertakes an Enhanced Disclosure & Barning Service (DBS) check for all successful candidates, and a confirmed offer of employment is dependent upon a satisfactory response from the DBS.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with clients, colleagues and external agencies.
  • The ability to work with clients with complex needs to assess risks and support needs and plan for positive goals and outcomes.
  • To be able to respond appropriately to instances of challenging behaviour.
  • Excellent organisational skills including time management, planning and working under own initiative.
  • Ability to use a computer, particularly Word and Outlook.

Experience

  • Working with vulnerable people in either a paid or voluntary capacity
  • Support clients to achieve individual goals in line with tailor-made support plans.
  • Work co-productively with clients and other partners/agencies to provide an appropriate responsive service.
  • Housing management e.g., familiar with Housing Benefit issues, voids management, tenancy agreements and re-housing processes
  • Experience of working effectively with service users with mental health and other complex needs.

Skills

  • An understanding of the need for confidentiality and data protection when dealing with confidential information
  • Ability to undertake comprehensive risk & need assessments based on needs and minimize risk to self and others.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to conflict and challenging behaviour.
  • Adhere to and work within policies and procedures
  • To work effectively as part of a team and support other workers. Also be able to access and effectively update an electronic recording and monitoring system for client record keeping.
