We are currently looking for Reach Truck Drivers (days & nights) for our Intake, Picking & Packaging department.
Purpose of the role:
The Reach Truck Operative is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of reach trucks to handle incoming stock, ensuring pallets are stored, retrieved, and moved in line with company procedures. The role involves accurate picking, storing, and loading of products, maintaining health and safety standards, and supporting the intake and despatch operations. The operative will contribute to reducing stock shortages and ensuring timely order fulfilment by assisting with forward planning, accurate stock handling, and effective communication with other team members.
Core responsibilities:
- Operate reach trucks to safely put away pallets in the correct storage locations and retrieve pallets as required for despatch.
- Use handheld scanners to accurately pick and store stock in the correct locations, maintaining stock accuracy.
- Operate MHE to load trailers in a safe and timely manner, ensuring goods are securely placed for transportation.
- Ensure that all stock is handled and moved according to company procedures and client specifications.
- Report any malfunctions or issues with MHE to the Intake Section Manager promptly to ensure timely repairs and avoid downtime.
- Communicate effectively with team members and the Section Leader to ensure smooth operations across intake and despatch functions.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues on shift to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and within required timeframes.
- Support other areas, such as intake and despatch, by assisting with load preparation, stock handling, and resolving operational issues as needed.
- Actively contribute to the team’s goal of reducing shortages to customers by maintaining accurate stock levels and ensuring orders are completed on time.
- Ensure all health and safety policies are adhered to, including the safe operation of MHE and correct use of manual handling techniques.
- Perform pre-use checks on reach trucks to ensure equipment is in good working condition before use.
- Follow food safety and hygiene guidelines, particularly when working in controlled temperature areas.
- Contribute to forward planning by preparing loads in line with the collection plan, ensuring efficiency and minimal delay.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and communicate these suggestions to the Section Leader to enhance operational effectiveness.
Role overview:
Shift pattern: Work only 7 days in 14 with our 4 on, 3 off, 3 on, 4 off shift pattern, Sunday - Wednesday or Wednesday to Saturday
Hours: 6am to 7pm days; 6pm to 6am night shift
About you:
- Proven experience operating a reach truck or similar MHE within a warehouse environment.
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations, including safe operation of MHE and manual handling techniques.
- Exerience using handheld scanners and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to track and manage stock.
- Ability to work in controlled temperature areas and understand food safety compliance.
- Forklift/Reach Truck certification (RTITB or equivalent).
- Previous experience in intake or despatch operations within a warehouse or logistics environment
- Understanding of stock management and the importance of accurate order fulfilment.
