ABOUT THE POSITION
The County of Riverside's Riverside University Health System's Float Pool Division is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC to work at the RUHS Medical Center in Moreno Valley,
The Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC is the advanced journey level classification in the Registered Nurse – MC/CHC series and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents perform nursing duties while applying advanced knowledge and skills in providing care and service to patients with more complex problems and needs within assigned unit(s). Incumbents responsibilities are expanded to include participation in activities relating to quality assurance, policy and procedure review/revision, in-service education, staff development and preceptorship. The incumbent will float between the Medical Surgical floors and the Progressive Care Unit.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to be flexible and adapt to different units. Additionally, he/she will have at least two years of experience as a Registered Nurse working in the Medical-Surgical-Telemetry Units and/or the Progressive Care/Intermediate Care Units.
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Current and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
- Basic Life Support, (BLS), certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support, (ACLS), certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, (NIHSS), certification issued by the American Heart Association, Blue Cloud-National Stroke Association, or Apex.
- Cardiac Arrhythmia certification.
Additional Information
- Schedule: 3/12, Night Shift, 7:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.
- Bilingual is preferred.
Salary Range (Hourly) & Differentials
- Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC - $51.1284 - $77.1585
- Evening Shift Differential (6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.); $2.50/hour
- Night shift Differential (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.): $5.00/hour

Float Pool Differential: $2.50/hour
- Specialty Care/Critical Care differentials will be applied following completion of required specialty training, attainment of all necessary certifications, and departmental determination that the employee is authorized to work independently.
Medical-Surgical Departments
The Riverside University Health System-Medical Center has six medical surgical units and all applicants whom apply to this posting may be considered for all six units depending on department specific requirements.
- 4500 Medical/Surgical (Med/Surg) Unit is composed of 34 private rooms. Unit 4500 provides our nurses a wide range of opportunities such as: blood and blood product transfusions, chemotherapy, care of the oncologic patient, wound care and telemetry monitoring as well as overall care of adult medical/surgical patients.
- General Surgery Unit 3500 is composed of 34 private rooms. Our dedicated nursing staff provides a wide range of nursing duties such as pre & post-op care, chemotherapy, blood and blood product transfusions, care of the oncologic patient, wound management, telemetry monitoring and overall care of adult post-operative medical/surgical patients.
- Surgical Specialties Unit 3100 is also composed of 34 private rooms one used as a Radiation Therapy room for treatment of patients with I-131. 3100 nursing staff provides services to various types of musculoskeletal & trauma patients, plastic surgery, ENT, neurology, joint replacements, laminectomy, repairs of tendons and nerves, pre & post-op care, wound management, blood and blood product transfusions and telemetry monitoring.
- Detention Care Unit 4400 is a 22 bed specialty unit that offers some unique opportunities. We care for a variety of patients from county and State detention facilities that require medical or surgical intervention, including telemetry monitoring. We also care for patients from detention facilities who require psychiatric evaluations. We are fortunate to have an in-house P.C.L.S. team and psychiatrist who work with our patients daily. Our unit also occasionally provides care for detention patients who require chemotherapy, I-131 treatment and postpartum care. We work with a professional group of officers that accompany us while we do our nursing care.
- 4100 Med/Surg Unit has 34 private rooms and specializes in medical surgical patients and is our designated Stroke Unit. Our nurses are specially trained to care for stroke patients, including NIHSS. We also care for patients requiring telemetry monitoring.
- 4200 Med/Surg unit is currently composed of 34 private rooms and specializes in the care of general adult medical/surgical patients, including those that require telemetry monitoring. It is also the primary overflow unit for both County and State inmates, caring for general acute care adult medical/surgical patients, including those that require telemetry.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Examples of Essential Duties (may include but not limited to)
- Assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations of patients and prepare patients for medical treatment.
- Assist physicians in administering treatments and in performing medical examinations, diagnostic tests and surgical operations.
- Administer prescribed treatment and medications, including dispensing, as ordered to patients; chart treatment of patients; record and report significant changes in condition and general progress of patients.
- Counsel and advise patients, families and significant others regarding special medical problems and/or proper healthcare methods.
- Prepare and maintain concise and complete records and reports; instruct patients in carrying out physician's orders; transcribe physician's orders to working records.
- Provide orientation and training to new staff, residents, medical students, Regional Occupational Program (ROP) participants and nursing students.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews; act as a team leader or relief charge nurse.
- Assign and monitor, the work of subordinate nursing personnel; participate in committee activities; identify staff training needs.
- Triage patients by reviewing admission charts and merging patients into the appropriate patient assignment or clinic flow when appropriate.
- Testify in court as to client's mental and physical condition.
- Coordinate and monitor patients through the hospitalization process utilizing physicians, primary care nurses and third-party payors to maintain quality care and fiscal responsibility.
- Review the post hospital care plan with the patient,/family establishing a contact regarding timeframes and responsibilities; follow care plan through patient discharge.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC
Education: Successful completion of the education required to obtain a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. (A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or a health-related field may be required for some positions.)Experience: Equivalent to three years of full time experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care facility or community health agency with references and evaluations to show appropriate skill level. (A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or a national certification in a nursing specialty may be substituted for one year of the required experience. A master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing may be substituted for two years of the required experience.)
Knowledge of: Current principles, techniques and procedures used in professional nursing; medical terminology and patient care routine appropriate to clinical setting; medical instruments and equipment; the uses and effects of medicines and narcotics; community resources available to provide patient care and follow-up; federal, state and local laws and regulations governing professional aspects of nursing; identification of potential discharge needs; payor source documentation requirements and governmental regulations affecting reimbursement.
Ability to: Perform the full range of nursing duties and responsibilities in a patient care setting; plan and organize nursing plans for patients; prepare and maintain concise and complete records and reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients and fellow employees; secure the cooperation of employees to work effectively together; assist in the instruction of entry-level nurses and ancillary personnel; keep abreast of developments in area of nursing specialization; evaluate the medical records of hospital admissions; make recommendations regarding continued stay necessity; identify discharge needs.
Other Requirements
License/Certificate: Must possess and maintain a current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
Possession and maintenance of a current valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association.
Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required.
