Position: Residential Cultural Support Worker (Overnight)

Reporting to: Coordinator of Residential and Indigiqueer Inclusion

Location: 716 Water Street

Summary

As a member of the Residential and Indigiqueer Inclusion Team, the Residential Facilities worker will provide overnight support to First Light’s residential portfolio. The team’s work is steeped in anti-oppressive practice while working with a strong understanding of intergenerational and historical trauma and its effects on Indigenous peoples and communities.

Reporting to the Coordinator of Residential and Indigiqueer Inclusion, the Residential Facilities Worker will work primarily from Harvey House, First Light’s Transitional Housing Program while providing on-call support to First Light’s affordable housing complex. This is a full time permanent position with working hours running from 12am Monday morning to 8am Friday Morning.

The work is grounded in an Indigenous, holistic approach to health, ensuring that relatives of First Light’s transitional housing space are engaged and have real time support needs met while supporting tenant mental and spiritual health. The Residential and Indigiqueer Inclusion Team ensures that an individual's culture is taken into account to ensure both housing and supports put in place meet their needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide light-touch individual support through a holistic wellness-based approach to resident relatives of Harvey House & First Light’s Affordable Housing complex, as needed during overnight shifts
  • Actively engage in a harm-reduction approach, including safe-use follow-up, provision of harm-reduction supplies, and peer support
  • Act as a resident relative liaison for tenant relations, offering both individual support and collective oversight to promote conflict resolution
  • Maintain clear and current documentation regarding support provided to resident relatives across residential programs
  • Provide overnight organization-wide support, which may include light-touch facilities work and responding to resident relative needs

Skills, Experience and Requirements

  • Diploma/degree, or acceptable combination of similar education, in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Community Development, Indigenous Studies, etc.
  • Deep knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and practices
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in public-serving roles, with skills in conflict resolution and organizational procedure implementation
  • Understanding of the intersections of Indigeneity and gender diversity, through a lens of two-eyed seeing
  • Driver’s License and clear driver’s abstract
  • Clear Record of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check
