Hours of Work: 42 hours per week, working 12 hour day and night shifts (inclusive of a 1 hour unpaid lunch break) working 5 out of 7 days. The hours may be altered in order to meet the needs of the business. Some overtime may be required.

About the role
We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated Shift Team Leader to join our team at our Animal Feed Mill near York .
The Shift Team Leader is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the feed mill during their assigned shift. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and quality production of animal feed, while maintaining high standards of safety, quality control, and operational effectiveness. The Team Leader leads a team of production workers, ensuring that all production targets, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise Production Operations:
- Oversee daily feed mill operations during the shift, ensuring production targets and quality standards are met.
- Monitor and adjust production schedules to meet demand and ensure a smooth workflow.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of raw materials and finished products.
Team Management:
- Lead, coach, and motivate production team members, ensuring high levels of productivity and safety.
- Delegate tasks, monitor performance, and provide training to improve skills and knowledge.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations and company policies to prevent accidents and maintain a safe work environment.
- Ensure all employees follow personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines and safety protocols.
- Maintain compliance with food safety, environmental, and health regulations, ensuring all procedures are followed.
Quality Control:
- Monitor and maintain quality standards for the feed products, ensuring consistency and adherence to specifications.
- Investigate and resolve quality issues promptly, collaborating with the quality control team if needed.
- Ensure that records related to production, materials, and quality control are accurately maintained.
Equipment and Maintenance:
- Ensure all equipment and machinery are operating efficiently, reporting any maintenance issues promptly.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule repairs and prevent downtime.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure all equipment is in good working condition.
Inventory and Materials Management:
- Ensure adequate inventory of raw materials for production.
- Work with the supply chain team to monitor stock levels and avoid shortages.
- Manage inventory of finished products, ensuring proper storage and rotation.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
- Respond promptly to operational issues or emergencies during the shift, minimizing downtime and production delays.
- Work with team members to identify root causes of issues and implement corrective actions.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of production, maintenance activities, and safety inspections.
- Prepare and submit shift reports on operational performance, any incidents, and resource usage.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of animal feed production processes, safety standards, and equipment or similar industry.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift heavy objects for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, industrial environment with exposure to dust, noise, and various environmental conditions.
Working Conditions:
- Shifts may vary, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays, based on production needs.
- Work in an industrial environment with machinery, noise, and dust exposure.
- Occasional overtime may be required based on production demands.
