Job Description
Performs individual support-related duties by:
Ø maintaining confidentiality;
Ø supporting individuals on an ongoing basis;
Ø following through with techniques, strategies and protocols as developed by CLSC, other professional agencies or the Manager to meet people’s needs/choices/ outcomes;
Ø role modelling appropriate dress, grooming, health and behaviour and provide needed assistance as required;
Ø advocating for the rights and needs of people we support, within the community;
Ø in consultation with the Manager, recommending and implementing appropriate supports for persons and/or intervening in crisis situations according to established protocol;
Ø ensuring that any type of support for individuals reflects C.L.S.C.'s Mission Statement, Vision Statement and Values and the Least Restrictive Alternatives;
Ø working cooperatively with all C.L.S.C. employees to ensure continuity and consistency of support to individuals;
Ø encouraging and/or assisting individuals in their daily activities and chores (i.e. laundry, cooking, yard work, house-cleaning, shopping, budgeting, etc.) and promoting their independence;
Ø encouraging and/or assisting individuals in participating in their recreational and leisure activities and accompanying them to such activities when and where necessary;
Ø following through on people’s personal goals and outcomes are met;
Ø administering medications to all individuals as required and document as per established policies and procedures of CLSC. Be aware of its purpose, side effects and precautions.
Ø ensuring that humanistic approaches and positive reinforcement strategies are consistently utilized with all individuals.
Ø if working an awake night shift, verifying the security of individuals on an hourly basis throughout the night or early morning;
Ø responding to the needs of the individuals as they arise during the night or early morning (if working a night shift);
Ø if working a sleeping night shift, verifying the security of individuals before going to sleep (should sleep be the chosen non-work activity);
Ø adhering to Employee Standards as signed.## Overview
We are seeking compassionate Support Workers to provide essential care and assistance to individuals in need. As a Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for our clients.
## Duties
- Assist clients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration
- Provide companionship and emotional support to clients
- Perform light housekeeping tasks to ensure a clean and safe environment
- Implement care plans tailored to each client's specific needs, such as dementia care or senior care
- Support clients in assisted living facilities or nursing homes
Qualifications
Ø S.S.W. diploma (formerly B.S.T., M.R.C., D.S.W.) or P.S.W. diploma;
Ø experience working with people with developmental challenges;
Ø comprehension of and commitment to C.L.S.C.'s Mission Statement, Vision Statement and Values;
Ø must be familiar with and support the Principles of Least Restrictive Alternatives;
Ø must complete and maintain certification in Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention
Ø must complete and maintain any and all training deemed mandatory by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services;
Ø must be self-motivated, able to work independently and accept responsibility;
Ø must be able to work effectively, objectively and positively within a Team model and with individuals requiring support;
Ø must be prepared to support individuals in all aspects of community living;
Ø must be imaginative, creative and able to improvise in order to respond to the needs of individuals;
Ø valid driver's license is required and vehicle an asset.
Ø must complete and maintain certification in First Aid /CPR at their own expense;
Ø knowledge of epileptic seizures an asset;
Ø bilingualism an asset;
Ø lifting may be a requirement of the job.
