Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

Your Impact
Reporting to the Supervisor Electrical, the Surface Electrician will provide safe efficient electrical services involving the repair, servicing and maintenance of Newmont Tanami’s fixed plant electrical infrastructure. Electrical infrastructure will include (but not limited to) motors, VSD’s, instrumentation, crushing plants, paste plants, conveyors, Koepe& Double drum winders, HV power reticulation networks, substations, distribution boards and ancillary items.
As part of our team, you will
- Carry out electrical tasks to a high standard complying with Australian standards, mine regulations, environmental standards.
- Maintain and repair fixed plant surface equipment, including crushers, conveyors, Koepe and double drum winders, paste and batching plants, primary ventilation systems, dewatering infrastructure, and shaft-related assets, to ensure equipment reliability and operational continuity.
- Adhere to work management processes by accurately confirming daily time against job numbers and documenting detailed work history to support maintenance planning and reporting.
- Perform all tasks to a high standard of quality, ensuring compliance with site procedures, statutory requirements, and safety standards.
- Lead and mentor apprentices through on-the-job training, supporting skill development and safe work practices.
- Monitor and assess equipment performance and reliability, identifying issues early and contributing to continuous improvement.
- Conduct risk assessments and follow all safety procedures (e.g. Safe Check, JHA), reporting hazards, incidents, and environmental concerns immediately.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, workplace inspections, and incident investigations to support a proactive safety culture.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment, sourcing and applying technical data from manuals and systems to complete tasks effectively.
- Electrical Trade Qualification and NT Electrical Licence, with prior experience in fixed plant maintenance systems
- Demonstrated experience with shaft infrastructure, winder systems, koepe& double drum winders, crushers and conveyors is highly desirable.
- Hold valid certifications in working at heights, confined space, HV switching, LV rescue / CPR
- Valid Australian Driver’s Licence
- PLC knowledge and demonstrated experience
- Familiarity with risk management, safety systems and legislative requirements for hoisting systems
- Proficient in the use of SAP (CMMS)
The role involves a FIFO schedule with 14/14 or 8/6 opportunities available, which may involve working night shifts. Approved departure locations for the point of hire are Darwin, Alice Springs, Perth, and Brisbane.
