The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for immediate openings for Intermittent Transport Officers (both female and male).
In addition, an eligibility list is being established for any future intermittent vacancies in this role. Intermittent Transport Officers are responsible for the secure and professional transportation of inmates, juveniles, and individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, in accordance with Benton County Jail policies and procedures.
This position plays a vital role in supporting the safety and efficiency of our correctional operations and ensuring the proper custody and care of individuals during transport.

As An Intermittent Transport Officer, You Will
- Safely transport inmates, juveniles, and individuals in mental health crisis
- Apply and monitor appropriate restraint devices during transport
- Maintain accurate transportation records and reports
- Operate and maintain assigned transport vehicles
- Provide courtroom security and support during legal proceedings
- Respond appropriately to incidents requiring de-escalation or physical intervention

Position Summary
Responsible for the secure and safe transportation of inmates, mental health patients, and juveniles in compliance with the operational rules and policies of the Benton County Jail.

Essential Functions
- Provides transportation and supervision for inmates, mentally ill persons, and juveniles to and from court, medical facilities, counseling, other correctional and holding facilities, and other locations.
- 1. Calculates the appropriate route of travel and potential available facility stops along the route.
- 2. Determines appropriate detainee care while traveling.
- Performs proper application of restraint devices for transport.
- Maintains records and prepares reports regarding the transportation of inmates.
- Operates and maintains transport vehicles.
- Provides inmates with appropriate forms prior to court appearance and responds to questions and concerns.
- Provides courtroom and medical facility, including hospital security.
- Responds to safety and security incidents and other emergency situations, may require physical restraint and control of resisting and uncooperative persons.
- Assists with inmate work site checks as needed.
- Assists jail intake staff with the jail intake process as needed.

Minimum Qualifications - Training and Experience Required
Minimum Qualifications
- One-year post-secondary training; and
- 1 ½ years (18 months) experience in a related field or area; OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid MN Driver's License; and
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota; and
- Must successfully complete a background check; and
- Must complete and pass a psychological exam, physical exam, and drug and alcohol screening; and
- Obtain and maintain certifications and licensures.
- 1. Ability to obtain and maintain, within six months of hire:
- 1.1. FBI Level 4 Criminal Justice Information System Security Training/Testing and maintain annually.
- 1.1.1. FBI Fingerprinting Certification.
- 1.2. BCA Single Certification: Training, Testing, and Certification are maintained annually.
- 1.3. PREA, Use of Force, and Portal’s Training is maintained annually.
- 1.4. Taser Training: Training & Qualification/Testing, and OC Certification: Training, Testing, and Certification maintained annually. (Optional Training)
- 2. Ability to obtain and maintain, within one year of hire:
