The Benton County Sheriff’s Office - Jail is currently accepting applications for an immediate opening for a Part-Time MALE Transport Officer.
In addition, an eligibility list is being established for any future part-time vacancies in this role. Part-Time Transport Officers are responsible for the secure and professional transportation of inmates, juveniles, and individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, in accordance with Benton County Jail policies and procedures.
This position plays a vital role in supporting the safety and efficiency of our correctional operations and ensuring the proper custody and care of individuals during transport.

As a Part-Time Transport Officer, You Will
- Safely transport and escort inmates, including juveniles and individuals in mental health crisis, experiencing withdrawal, or exhibiting uncooperative behavior, to and from court appearances, medical and dental appointments, and other detention facilities.
- Apply and monitor appropriate restraint devices during transport
- Maintain accurate transportation records and reports
- Operate and maintain assigned transport vehicles
- Provide courtroom security and support during legal proceedings
- Respond appropriately to incidents requiring de-escalation or physical intervention

Assist jail intake staff and work site checks as assigned
- Maintain professionalism in sensitive or high-risk situations
- Understand and follow safety protocols and best practices for detainee supervision
- Possess a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
- Bring prior experience in law enforcement or corrections (training provided for qualified candidates)
- Are available to work flexible, part-time hours—weekdays, evenings, or weekends as needed
- Demonstrate respectful and professional communication with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Exercise sound judgment, strong situational awareness, and calm, appropriate responses in dynamic situations

Position Summary
Responsible for the secure and safe transportation of inmates, mental health patients, and juveniles in compliance with the operational rules and policies of the Benton County Jail.Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Provides transportation and supervision for inmates, mentally ill persons, and juveniles to and from court, medical facilities, counseling, other correctional and holding facilities, and other locations.
- 1. Calculates the appropriate route of travel and potential available facility stops along the route.
- 2. Determines appropriate detainee care while traveling.
- Performs proper application of restraint devices for transport.
- Maintains records and prepares reports regarding the transportation of inmates.
- Operates and maintains transport vehicles.
- Provides inmates with appropriate forms prior to court appearance and responds to questions and concerns.
- Provides courtroom and medical facility, including hospital security.
- Responds to safety and security incidents and other emergency situations, may require physical restraint and control of resisting and uncooperative persons.
- Assists with inmate work site checks as needed.
- Assists jail intake staff with the jail intake process as needed.

Pick up supply request from the supervisors.
- Attends trainings as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.Qualifications
- One-year post-secondary training; and
- 1 ½ years (18 months) experience in a related field or area; OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid MN Driver's License; and
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota; and
- Must successfully complete a background check; and
- Must complete and pass a psychological exam, physical exam, and drug and alcohol screening; and
- Obtain and maintain certifications and licensures.
- 1. Ability to obtain and maintain, within six months of hire:
- 1.1. FBI Level 4 Criminal Justice Information System Security Training/Testing and maintain annually.
- 1.1.1. FBI Fingerprinting Certification.
- 1.2. BCA Single Certification: Training, Testing, and Certification are maintained annually.
- 1.3. PREA, Use of Force, and Portal’s Training is maintained annually.
- 1.4. Taser Training: Training & Qualification/Testing, and OC Certification: Training, Testing, and Certification maintained annually. (Optional Training)
- 2. Ability to obtain and maintain, within one year of hire:

2.1. First Aid/CPR/AED Certification: Training, Proficiency Testing, and Certification maintained every two years.
- Prior law enforcement or corrections experience.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of law enforcement and court terminology and procedures.
- Ability to handle critical situations in a calm manner.
- The ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain effective public relations and deal with hostile or aggressive persons.
- Ability to handle various assignments and problems under moderate supervision within standard operating procedures.
- Ability to perform standard procedures and tasks where basic analytical ability is required. Detailed guidelines and procedures are generally used to make decisions or determine actions.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with regular contact with the department and periodic contacts with other departments, outside agencies, and the public to relay basic information or facts.
- Ability to travel within your daily work assignment.
- Ability to travel within Minnesota, including extended overnight stays.
- Ability to work extended, evening, and weekend hours as needed.
- Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
- Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours, and outside regular hours, as necessary.

Must comply with data practices policies and standards related to private data. Access to private data is limited strictly to what is necessary to perform assigned job duties. While accessing such data, the employee must take reasonable measures to prevent unauthorized access by individuals without a work-related need. Once the work-related purpose has been met, private data must be properly secured and stored in accordance with county policies and Minnesota Statutes.
- Work is performed in the Benton County Jail and other facilities involved with the transport of inmates.
- Normal hearing and correctable vision required.
- Must possess physical strength and the ability to restrain and control persons, and the ability to physically defend oneself.
- This position requires the ability to lift or assist in lifting injured persons.
- Duties can include a prolonged period of standing or walking.
- Moderate likelihood of contact with bloodborne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and other potential infectious materials.
- Moderate likelihood of verbal abuse and violence exposure from hostile and angry inmates.
- This position is exposed to mental effort and stress.
- This position frequently performs work under moderate attention to detail and deadlines.

Work is performed in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to adverse or inclement weather while traveling or transporting individuals.
